Dorothy, I have sent you a private message, I think it goes to the email on file.  If you don't get it, let me know. Katie.

Welcome Dorothy!  I hadn't heard of the Robert Dugoni books, so thank you for the recommendation.  It looks like my library has many of them.  I'll PM you.

Richard. I won't banter words with you any longer on the 14th Amendment. It's obvious you do not understand the true meaning of Section 3 and that you reuse it to understand that Jan. 6, 2021, was not an insurrection. It was first started by anti-American groups and a few weak-headed Republicans that joined in. President Trump was NOT Calling for such a riot when he said to go peacefully and patriotically to the Capital and let your voice be heard. Nothing in his speech that day was said to initiate such a riot. I have the full transcript of that speech if you would like to read it.

The Colorado Supreme Court's decision to take Trump off the ballot is now in the hands of the US Supreme Court. Let's wait and see what they have to say about it. I will abide by their decision. Will You?

Richard, I'm really sorry you just don't understand the issues as DeWitt does. Maybe you could study a bit more, research a bit more so you will have the knowledge DeWitt has.  Thank heavens we have DeWitt and his amazing brain, so great that his information is all we need.  Now going back to the real world, it would really be nice if he could just disagree with you without belittling your knowledge or opinions. His OPINION  about the trump speech not igniting an INSURRECTION is a bit cherry picked because also in the same speech trump said, "We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore." So he got a group of people who had already been energized for weeks by surrogates and trump about election theft, had speakers that were instigators, I'm sure he chose all the speakers carefully, then tries to absolve himself of all responsibility.  Giulliani called for a "trial by fire."  There can be differing OPINIONS about insurrection or not, but in my mind tourists don't break windows, etc, do great damage to the pinnacle of our government, bring weapons, spread poop around, cause deaths, threaten to hang the Vice-President, and try to stop the peaceful transfer of power.  Most of us watched Jan. 6th in horror, seeing trump flags, confederate flags enter the Capitol.

By contrast, President Biden has said he will abide by election results and return to a peaceful transition. He hasn't instigated using brutality in any way.  He doesn't tell the police to shoot first and ask questions later.  He doesn't tell his followers to beat someone up and he will pay for any costs. He doesn't tell police to purposely put people in their cars to hurt the suspect.  He is a more peaceful man.

Katie,

Anyone can read the entire transcript from Trump's speech at that rally. He clearly uses the word(s) fight numerous times during his speech. He said going to the Capitol peacefully once towards the end. Don't take my word for it Google the transcript and read it.

01/09/24 07:15 PM #12152

Katie Baribeau (Moore)

I read it and I watched it on TV. I have family members living close to the Capitol. I didn't know how big it would get.  I wonder, if these weren't trump supporters why did he say, "These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!”  He was saying this to his supporters and he never said they were anything else.

I just listened to an Inveterate Liar make a Speech and lie and the scariest thing about it, is that he believes his own lies and there are people that believe it also. He talks about duty and truth and preserving the Democracy and at the same exact time refuses to enforce the Immigration Law as it presently exists and when challenged as to why, he claims he needs money to do so, when 3 years ago President Donald J. Trump was much more proficient at using the same personnel to enforce the Immigration Laws with far better results, and the Democrats would not fund enforcement at all because of their ever present TDS. Hearing this IL's Speech it is truly puzzling that he makes no reference to the Border Calamity and when asked why he's done noting, he blames Congress or Senate for not giving him Money. He is a dangerous Sociopath and is truly an indicator of how far down We as a Nation have Slipped. No one even wants to hear what has been revealed about the Epstein Horror that has involved hundreds of "our Elites". This is not recommended Reading for some of you who have a blind allegiance to all things Biden. Ah you know who you are.

Welcome Dorothy,

Thanks for  teaching and sorry for your loss.

Im an idependent and probably will be part of the group that selects the new president.  It wont be Trump or Biden.  The Biden/Trump are like old wine has been in a bottle that should of been thrown out.

I took a test that said I was a moderate with progressive leaning....how I got progressive leanings if anything my leanings are conservative

Of the liberals I know, none were veterans and most would buy anything Jane Fonda has promoted.

As a vet who was spit on, and called a baby killer (came close to being a B52 tailgunner but eyesight moved me into medical supply) Went for all the jobs that were left after the non-vets got the money making jobs..found my degree was worthless because of the time; when I was in the service had passed. yep I got the pick of the litter kmart, labells, thrifty, savon-drugs. while others had houses we had apartments and hoped to get a trailer. somehow I made it out of all that and got in with a corporation and a entry level job at that. And I was a lucky one. most are in homeless places.

Its amazing how a one percenter and that percent is declining with the new shipment of soon to be migrant Americans.

Stop making birther americans born from illegals

Give Mexico money fo the land below Arizona  and making it US and Arizona will have a seaport...its just a straight line to Baja. those people living in this area are now citizens....and stretch the wire across. while their our military will end the cartels..

Illegals caught with drugs will be given a chance to save themselves.  criminal placed in a bag with 4 hangranades and a hangranade with its pin pulled is dropped in the same bag with the pin on a chair in front of them.

Welcome to OZ..... you made it back to your home and found out the school teacher  is now principal and your home has been sold to pay for the good of the new oz zo ens.  The professor tried to sell his tonic but was tar and feathered for having such an individual thought; earning his own money.  and so on and so forth.

Its time to go; I am starting to hear the queens soildiers marching out of the castle and beware of falling monkeys, ... making them think they can fly.... how novel.

Dennis

I saw a video and audio today (on the Trish Regan podcast, if that makes a difference), recording Trump’s arrival at a DC courthouse.  The mic was picking up what a gathering of “journalists” were saying at the time.  They spoke jokingly of wishing they could “knock off” the President.  Not funny.

But it is rather indicative of where the “press” stands in regard to covering Trump.  It’s also indicative, in part, to the careless rhetoric that is so often used when Trump is the subject. I am not a big Trump fan myself, but I can say this is not useful in a democracy.

Oh Katie, how I wish I had the wit and wisdom you have to make such a snarky attack on my comment. to Richard. That's ok. I enjoyed it.

Here's some more knowledge from my 'amazing brain' for you and Lorts The word 'FIGHT' is used in many speeches to convey the need to resist. Republicans and Democrats use it many times to show their desire to change things. It does not necessarily mean to engage in physical battle.  Whether you like it or believe it the 2020 election was rife with fraud from the left. There is plenty of evidence to show that. Trump was only encouraging a fight in the House and Senate to show that.  The Civil War was a true insurrection. The Southern states decided to succeed from the nation when threatened with losing equal representation in Congress. The ensuing war took tens of thousands of lives including non-combatants and brothers fighting against each other. THAT was an insurrection and the reason for the 14th Amendment. The United States committed an insurrection when they presented King George with the Declaration of Independence. That resulted in an all-out war with England. How many were killed on both sides then? There was no war on Jan. 6, 2021. The only one killed was shot by a scared Capital policeman who decided to become judge, jury, and executioner. Yes, Trump used the word "FIGHT" many times that day but he never intended the riot that started later that day. If Trump was such an insurrectionist, why hasn't he been indicted and tried for such a despicable deed like he was in Congress and exonerated?

A one-man insurrectionist against the entire United States. What a laugh.

Bill K,

Careless Rhetoric

Are you referring to Trump calling all who oppose him vermin, or immigrants are poisoning our blood or that he could have negotiated between the north and south to avoid the civil war or of course the big one "I really won the 2020 election". This lie is the basis of the Jan 6 insurrection. Yes, careless rhetoric can be dangerous.

Bill, Don't think for one minute that the leftist Marxists wouldn't have knocked him off by now if they weren't afraid that would make him a martyr and strengthen the conservative lead.

Bill, I also believe the journalists should have handled themselves more appropirately.  I wish we could move to a kinder nation.   In saying that, I am surprised the journalists have been as good as they are due to how trump has treated them.  I  thought the MAGA/trumpies loved the nasty trump, they cheer when he talks of Paul Palosi getting hammered in the head, they love it when he talks about the violence police should use against protesters or people who disagree with him.  Journalists are human and I would assume some of them have had enough.  turmp has saved some of the nastiest attacks for women reporters.  In addition to referring to the fake news, he refuses to answer questions from them, an American with Chinese heritage was told to go back to her country to ask the question and told her the question about covid was "nasty.'  Of course we all remember the "blood coming out of her where ever" in responce to a question he didn't like.  Then there was Yamich Alcindor, a Black woman and a fantastic journalist, was personally targeted as threatening with her line of questioning.  Some of them have needed to hire bodyguards because trump has set his minnions on them.  He has an unprecendented hostility toward the press and calls them the enemy of the people, corrupt, dishonest, low life supporters, human scum, and some of the worst human beings you will ever meet.  He loves the limelight but only when he 100% approves of what they write.  Even Chris Wallace said the he believes that trump "is engaged in the most direct sustained assault on freedom of the press in our history."  He does that because if the journalists report the truth about him we, as readers, will understand the little nasty man he is and turn away from him.  There are some who love that, they are his base, we will always deal with nastiness and trump brings it to the forefront with each and every speech.

In comparison, President Biden acts Presidential at news conferences.  Yes, he does call people out every once in a while but I have never heard him or read about him saying any of the above things about the press.  That's because he is a much better human being, and although he gets difficult questions thrown at him, he knows the press serve as needed information gatherers.  Such a difference.  Vote Democratic. it will save our Constitution and our Democracy.

My final question is, how useful to our Democracy the way trump treats the first amendment protected press.......I'll wait.

DeWitt,

In testimony from the leader of The Oathkeepers explaining they a room in nearby Virginia full of weapons they could use during the Jan 6 riot.

So when Trump used the word FIGHT it wasn't to crowd at high school pep rally, it was to crowd willing to fight to take back their country. People like The Oathkeepers, who had the weapons needed to accomplish this goal.

01/10/24 10:52 AM #12162

Katie Baribeau (Moore)

Lorts, he was also aware the insurrectionists had weapons when he tried to make the Secret Service allow them in without going through the magatrometers.  He told the Secret Service to let them in because they weren't there to hurt him.  I wonder who he thought they were there to hurt........  So he was using the word fight with people who had been stirred up by violent rhetoric and fake information about a stolen election.   That is a much different scenario than has been passed off here by the MAGA/trumpies.

Hunter Biden flees his Hearing with the Commitee investigating Joe's son, Hunter, running from the Hearing like Jesse James escaping the Bank in Minnesota. Like Father Like Son. Demonstrates the Biden Family's Total Disregard for the Rule of Law. You are now free to go ahead and try to run down Donald J. Trump until your Blue in the Face and your Answer is just what occurred on National Television. Trump has never dodged a Hearing no matter how wrong, how contrived, how insipid, and how ill conceived it may have been. It is Called Respect, and the Biden's don't have it. And you Democrats, well, you need to engage in some self examination because what Hunter Biden did, reflects directly upon his Father's Respect for the Law, i.e. the ''Open Border Policy" and his refusal to do anything about the Border Catastrophe. This is clearly a demonstration of how much Joe Biden respect's the Law he is required by Oath to  Enforce. Like Father Like Son.

01/10/24 11:58 AM #12164

Katie Baribeau (Moore)

Kelly, did you mean that last post as humor.......or was it just hypocrisy.  I would look back to see if you felt the same when MAGA/trumpies refused to show for a subpoena,   House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of California, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Mo Brooks of Alabama and Mark Meadows.  I actually wish Hunter would show and get this over with to stop the MAGA/trumpie whining. Then you talk about the Biden family not respecting the rule of law.  I almost belly laughed at that one knowing how trump and his minions have respected the rule of law, in case you don't know, they don't. The problem is that once someone gets away with not respecting our laws, regulations, or typical behavior it makes it that much more probable that it will happen again. Then it's quite hypocritical to call out one without acknowledging that it was done before by someone you support.  In Hunter Biden's case at least he is willing to testify, it's the problem that MAGA/republicans want to do it in private so they can relay what information they want, whether truthful or not.  In this atmosphere, I would probably do the same thing. You say you are a lawyer, is it only Democrats who are guilty until proven innocent, because some statements made on this forum seem to already be making negative comments and as of now, Hunter Biden has not had his day to tell his side in a court of law.

Joe Biden called White House Reporter Peter Doucy "A dumb SOB" on a hot mic.  Very Presidential??

01/10/24 01:08 PM #12166

Katie Baribeau (Moore)

Tell me Frank, how many more examples can you come up with. As I said in my post, he has succumbed to a question with an inappropriate comment. I wonder if that reporter needed to hire a body guard because of Biden's lapse in good behavior.  I'll wait for your answer. Again, even Presidents are human, President Biden isn't perfect by any standard.  When you show me your post calling out trump for his chosen rhetoric, I will read it.  I am so tired of fake outrage for gotcha remarks. To all, look at the general behavior. If we are judged by a moment of anger, we would all be on the losing end. It would be better to look at behavior in its entirety.

If I'm understanding Dennis' post #12255 correctly, progressives on this forum are not veterans.  Agree that seems to be the case of active participants in the forum.  I wonder if or how many veterans who are progressive/liberal are classmates, but not participating in the forum.  If, on the other hand, Dennis was referring to Congress, he is correct that most legislators who are veterans are Republican.  There are 122 veterans serving in the current 118th Congress, of which 97 are Republicans.  However, the remaining 25 are Democrat, so liberal veterans are not non-existent.  Regardless of party affiliation, the percent of veterans serving in Congress is at a near low, now that fewer veterans of WWII and Korean War are around.  118th Congress has more veterans, but still few by historical standards | Pew Research Center

Dennis also noted that we need a President who can walk on his own.  I'm not sure if he meant that literally or figuratively, but I feel a need to "stand up" for people with mobility issues.  There are a number of current and former politicians who, though not highly mobile or have other handicaps, are still quite agile mentally, whether or not you agree with their positions.   Examples are Governor Abbott (R) and Senator Duckworth (D, veteran).  I'm assuming if Trump suddenly had mobility issues as a result of a car accident or something, that his supporters would still vote for him.

Mary, I applaud you.  You have a great non-confrontational way of putting things. I could learn from you. My problem on this forum is I don't want to bring stones to a gunfight.  But, kudos to you. I like reading your posts!

Greg,

How about not accepting the results of a free and fair election? How about all the court challenges that have found NO EVIDENCE OF FRAUD? Even with Republican judges. How about Rudy Giuliani and his accusations of mother and daughter volunteers in the Georgia election county? Remember, he was found guilty. How about the fact that the VERY FEW INCIDENTS of fraud were done by Republicans?

Did Greg Abbott of Texas  ever pay the governor of Pennsylvania the million dollars he promised if anyone found evidence of fraud ?  Two incidents of fraud were found committed by Republicans. One who used his dead wife's ballot to vote for Trump and the other man who voted his own and his son's for Trump.

Did pillow guy Lindell pay the millions he promised for anyone finding fault with his evidence of computer fraud?  The fellow who challenged Lindell's fake information about corrupt voting machines is taking him to court because he did prove Lindell wrong and Lindell is not honoring his offer.  Last I heard Lindel was losing in court on that matter.

oh, and don't forget Fox News loss of millions in their lying reports of voting machines interference.

Just a few of the ways Republicans are trying to destroy democracy. No honor among thieves.

Mary,

my view was this forum....your news of the country as a whole was interesting.

I think their are many ways to solve a problem and Im sure conservatives and liberals should work together.  If we can't work it out without tearing either side down how can we expect a bunch of politicians to do whats right.

We need answers not snide views of whoever.  I know how hard that is cause its so much easier to tear a person down.

How many times have you seen please, vote your convictions and support all sides right to vote.

Its not that I don't like President Biden it more of he is just to old for the job and the same goes for Trump. If someone has an idea of how to fix something more power to them. I too use a cane from time to time but what our country needs is a leader who is balanced enough to see the other side and able to overcome probems that happen when they get older.

I object to anyone being called a trumpee its like calling a liberalist a socialist.  We share so many same thoughts that we agree on but we need to hear the other group idea and who knows maybe its a great idea.

Dennis..

Teardowns is destroying America...All sides need to get on the same side...yes Make America Great should be above parties...so many things need to be corrected and thats from multiple years.

I hope people who want Trump be the Republican nominee got to see Chris Christie's speech this evening.  He pulled out of the Republican race and gave a Great speech.  He gave all the reasons Trump is NOT my preferred candidate.  If Trump is your preferred candidate you need to find the speech.  Thanks!!
