Mike Lorts

Michael Andrew Lorts 77, was born September 27th 1947 in Allegan, Michigan. He passed away November 26th 2024 in our home in Paradise Valley Arizona.

Mike owned Lorts Manufacturing for many years. He loved designing & manufacturing furniture, as well as attending all the furniture markets, including High Point, NC, Las Vegas, NV and especially the Maison&Objet show in Paris, France.

Mike also loved tennis. He played in tournaments with many dear friends over the years.

His great love was travel. He and his wife, Sylvia, traveled all over Europe, often going on the cruises offered by Viking’s River. In the summer of 2006, he took his entire family to a castle he had rented in Ireland. He also visited Italy and France with friends and family. His favorite trip was a tour of Turkey, the Greek islands, as well as a visit to Egypt. The pyramids and the Cairo Museum were highlights. He often traveled to China and The Philippines for business.

Mike was a news junkie, because he cared a great deal about what was going on in the world.

He loved to laugh and have fun!

Mike donated much of his time to charities and missions at his church: Palo Cristi Presbyterian church.

He was preceded in death by his dad Andy, mom Rosella and his sisters Mary Lou Loftis, Dottie Beam, Madaline Cardinal, Katie Johnson, and Patty Harris. He is survived by his sister Bev Bertrand and brother Harry Lorts. Mike has two children, Ty Lorts and Lisa Conatser. There are eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The grandkids brought him is greatest joy.

I was saddened to hear of Mike's passing.  We had some good private interactions a few years ago on this website and he told me about some of his youthful exploits.  I guess he figured the statute of limitations had expiredsmiley.  That's when I gave him the nickname of Butch....leader of the Hole in the Head gang...a take off on Butch Cassidy and the Hole in the Wall gang.  He liked that.  I had considered telling you a story or two, but I changed my mind.  It was private between the two of us.

It's so strange that I never got to meet Mike.  I wish I had.  Even with our political differences, I knew he was a good man and I respected him.  I wish we could have had that beer.

Well, Butch....God has you in his arms now and you, Sylvia and your family will be just fine until you meet again.  In God's time, it's the blink of an eye.

Vaya con Dios.

I knew Mike quite well in HS. Unfortunately, I believe I only saw him once since we graduated. What I do know about Mike , he was a devoted Christian, and a wonderful family man ! With this, I know he is with our Lord Jesus, in his Heavenly Kingdom. I pray for his Family, and loved ones..........
