DeWitt, I was thinking about what you said, that we might be able to be friends if it wasn’t for politics, I’m not sure that is fully correct so I will take a correction if that is not what you meant. I wonder……I think we live in two different worlds, you describe one I truly do not know. I have watched Nancy Pelosi for years, as far as I can tell she has always been a promoter of a Progressive agenda. I haven’t known the woman you describe as not interested in freedom for America. I think that is where you and I differ so much. I don’t dislike a person for following their belief system, I respect someone for that but may not ever cast a vote for them. I like much of what John McCain, Jeff Flake, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Paul Ryan, etc have said and done because they follow their beliefs. Would I vote for them, absolutely not, but do I think they are bad people, no. People have the right to their opinions, to promote their opinions and ideas for our country. I have the right to disagree. Before trump I never knew I had to hate the messenger, and follow lock step. Nancy Pelosi’s husband was brutally attacked and trump made fun of him. That shows no class, no empathy and absolutely no was to handle an illegal act. Making fun or someone who was almost fatally harmed……..sickening.
As far as freedom of religion, I consider myself a Buddhist, I’m don’t follow it all but the general philosophy is very comforting to me. I respect Christians as long as they practice their faith with deeds, not words. What drove me away from Christianity is people like one we have here who uses the Bible, not as it was written but as he a book to used to prop up his hatred of “other.”. I saw this happening a few times and knew I needed to go in a different direction. I don’t hate Christians, in fact, I believe most praying Christians put positivity in the world so I honor them for that. I have a grandson who is a pastor for a small evangelical church, he isn’t a victim. He preaches his beliefs with no censorship from outside. I have another family member who is a pastor. They hold services in each others homes or yards because they believe the money put into buildings could be used better in other circumstances, like help the poor. He also is allowed to preach what he wants with no censorship. I am always thankful for those of you on this site who pray for Sherri, because she needs all the help she can get. Positivity, freedom of religion and freedom from religion, that is my belief. If one has to impose their beliefs rather than bring a person in by their behavior, then I turn away. That was one reason I was drawn to Buddhism, beliefs are not imposed, they feel that by actions and outcomes they will inspire people for good.
The right to choose the President. Again, words just don’t do it. In Arizona we have had 3 recounts, the Ninja counters, several lawsuits, nothing has been successful in showing trump won and Biden lost. One very honorable man was Rusty Bowers. He is an extreme Republican but her followed his beliefs. What did he get? He was harrassed at his home where he was caring for his seriously ill daughter, he was censured by his party and lost his seat in the election. All of this for testifying his truth. That is sad. You can yell it from Mt. Denali but until you have PROOF that will hold in a court of law, you don’t have anything. This is the same across the nation, words, not proof. I don’t know how many times Guillani said he would show the proof of election fraud, crickets. Oh well, if some believe something with zero proof, that’s your right, but it certainly does not become factual until you have some proof.
Last but not least, trumps love of dictators. I’ll just take the latest. Orbán was at Mar-A-Lago last week…..trumps words, “there’s nobody that’s better, smarter or a better leader than Victor Orbán.” Said about Kim Jong Un, “we fell in love after exchanging letters.” Sometimes he made tough statements about sanctions on North Korea but carried through on very few and let the human rights atrocities in North Korea stand unconfronted. trump and Putin, I don’t even have to put anything down here because trumps love of Putin is well known. Trump indicated Putin was a genius and very savvy for invading Ukraine, he just couldn’t stop praising him. To me, these are examples of trumps foolishness around dictators. They play him like a well tuned piano.
We just live by different ideals and we don’t see the world the same. The issue then becomes how we treat each other in disagreement. That is the very sad part of this group. “If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” This has been attributed to Lincoln but there is much discussion about that. Anyway, this I believe, we are falling from within because we now, after trump, have 0 sum allowance for differences. If you don’t believe what I believe, you are a bad person worthy of being called names and belittling. I do it sometimes I know, I am not perfect (but I am learning to walk on water). But sometimes it is just nasty. Why, does anyone here think they will convince another person of anything, we don’t have to be divisive. Views may be stated without the downright nastiness. So in ending this diatribe……I don’t know why I am here, I just am. Someday I might walk away for good and let you Conservatives take over, say anything you want without challenge. Or, I might stay forever, at least presenting the other side. I don’t know what is to come, all I do know is that the future will come and kick us in the butt if we don’t find some unifying goal. We will fail as a country and we will deserve to fail. So I will share one more of my favorite sayings. “Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.” Benjamin Franklin
