Stephen Howard Hudson, 46, passed away November 1, 1992, in Laguna Beach, CA. Steve had a band in the late 60's and early 70's called Steph and Themselves. They played in local clubs and in Las Vegas.
I didn't know Steve very well. Seems like he was kind of an entertainer...maybe in a band or something. However....the one thing I remember very well was our participation in President Kennedy's Physical Fitness tests. We had to do many events like 100 sit-ups; runs; softball throws for distance, etc. One thing Steve did that blew everybody away was 25 legitimate pull-ups!! Not even the jocks could come close. I asked him how he did that and he said he just put himself in a trance. Ahead of his time?? True story.
Steve and I were close friends for a few years. He even composed a song for me. I wish I had saved it. He wanted to be a famous singer. I wonder if he ever got to perform. I also remember he had a car....a Hudson.... funny. May you rest in peace Steve.
I remember Steve because I delivered newspapers to his house and I would sometimes interrupt him and his band practicing. He was the lead singer as I recall. For some reason, I always assumed he was older than me and, since we never had any classes together, I didn't realize he was Class of '65 too. I recall that as Phoenix Gazette customers go, I liked Steve because he was nice to me whenever I came to collect for the paper.
