Mike Ewens

Mike Ewens

Michael Wayne Ewens, 73, passed away peacefully after a battle with MDS complicated by COVID-19 on November 29, 2020, at The Mayo Clinic Hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born on December 7, 1946, in Phoenix, Arizona.

"Oh the last goodbye's the hardest one to say, and this is where the cowboy rides away." - George Strait

Mike was a proud Arizona native who attended Camelback High School and Arizona State University. He married Sue Karoline Swanson in 1970 and settled in central Phoenix where they raised their two children. A natural salesman, Mike moved quickly from auto sales to a lengthy career with Utility Crane and Equipment from which he never retired.

When not traveling for work, he enjoyed racing sailboats, fishing, hunting, and working on the family ranch. Mike was an outdoorsman, an animal lover, a doting grandfather to Zoey, and the loudest voice in any room.

He is preceded in death by his mother Lois in 1979, his father Herbert in 1987, his brother Ward in 2006; Mike is survived by his wife Sue, his two children, Michael (Troy) and Lyndsey; his four grandchildren Katlyn, Cotter, Maggie, and Zoey; and his dog, Dogie. He will be missed by many other relatives and friends.

Due to the current conditions in our country, a celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Condolences for the family may be offered at legacy.com.

Sue.  I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing yesterday.  COVID is an insidious disease that doesn't discriminate and sometimes takes good people.  I didn't know Mike, but my wife and I prayed for him.  I guess God has some plans for him and you will be reunited someday.....maybe on a beautiful ranch in heaven.  That's the way I like to think about it.  Take care of yourself.

Mike will be missed by many!! He was such a wonderful. We hunted together, went out for a great time with those we loved and of course Zoey his darling grand daugher. We talked every week sometimes daily. You will be forever in my memory of great friends and great times. I know you are riding off into the sunset in your ranch in the heavens. Always in my heart.

Rest in peace Mike.  I remember Mike as a soft spoken, kind young man and even tho I hadn't seen him (except for one time in the airport) in years I always followed him on Facebook.  I loved how he always was remembering fallen serivicemen - what a kind thing to do.  MDS (bone marrow cancer) along with AML (leukemia) is what took Ed as well and for all of 2020 I've been so grateful that he wasn't here because he would have been so vulnerable and so much at risk.  Mike was clearly a man of faith and it's comforting to know that he's with God.

Friends,
For all of you who knew Michael, and for those who didn't, Michael was an incredible human being ! One of the nicest, most caring Men, I have ever known...I knew Him in Grade Sch., and through out CBHS. He was always quiet, respectful, and a pleasure to converse with. He had a tremendous love of Family, and Faith in God !. With a wonderful Respect for all Service Members of all Branches...I lost touch with him for many years, but later in life was forunate to attend some of his cookouts at his Ranch. It was a privilege, to have known him, that I will not forget... I offer my Sincerest Condolences to his Family, rest assured that Michael is now basking in the presence of Our Lord..........
