Don't spend a bunch of time on this forum, but am inspired to respond about recent remarks regarding Senator Mark Kelly.
I have known Mark for a more than a decade. I have been to his house and I he has been to mine. We have golfed together. When he was contemplating running for Senate, we had some pretty good conversations. He didn't need a job. He was not seeking fame or power. He did think he could possibly do some good for AZ and the country.
As you know, he and Gabby were very focused on gun violence. (I came oh so close to being at our local Safeway the morning Gabby was shot. She had texted me the night before, inviting me to attend. Think she knew I lived very close to the Safeway. Fortunately for me, I was out of town.)
I think Mark was hoping to be able to help guide common sense reform.
A running joke between us is about golf. He told me that if he did decide to run for Senate and won, he was still going to play golf every Sunday. From time to time, when I see him on the news involved in some issue or another, I text him: "Hey, Mark....how's that Sunday golf thing working out for you?" "HAR!" is his common reply. Saw him a couple of months ago in DC...and his golf game is still suffering.
So, when I see unfounded criticism of my friend, I feel a bit sad...and irritated. Makes me want to ask those involved the question: "So tell me. What was one great thing you have done in your life?
