#13707.  Spoken by someone who has never been in battle.  Truly not worth a response.

To paraphrase Buffalo Springfield.  "Nobody's right if everybody's wrong."

Just keep picking at each other and spew the hatred and vitriol.  Maybe this is why Dennis left the site on 4/17.

SECURE THE BORDER!!  ENFORCE THE LAW!!  AMERICA FIRST!!

Another example of someone who can't dispute the message, so he attacks the messanger. Trump has taught him well. But hey, at least he's reading my messages.

Patty Meyers (Anderson)

Does anyone else think it's time to remove this forum from the website for a month?  3 months or longer?

05/16/24 02:56 PM #13500

Frank Wiley

It wouldn't bother me if you removed it for 3 months based on, we aren't changing anyone's mind, but the Forum is important for announcements like Beer Summit dates.  Thanks!!

05/16/24 03:20 PM #13501

Bill RIHS

I am good with removing for at least until after the election.

05/16/24 03:36 PM #13502

Katie Baribeau (Moore)

Gee, Jim......do you think he might have left because of the nastiness.  You win the gold star!  What I find amazing is that you included that in a post in which you totally dismissed Richard because he didn't serve in battle.  Yet you will vote for a man who calls our service men and women losers and he is doesn't allow handicapped service members in his ceremonies.  I am not aware of any of his immediate family members serving except for his brother who has passed. You are one big contradiction.

Richard, I respect you for your posts.  A little snark, yes, but you manage to get the information. Thank you.  I also didn't fight in battle but I feel I am able to post factually or post my opinions accurately.  I admire many people who fought, I admire many who didn't. My uncle was a farmer and stayed on the farm during WWII.  Dad said he felt bad when the family picture was taken and all the men were in uniform. That was until the brothers told him everyone has a duty when the US is at war, some fight, some feed!

Patty, I would say if you want to "rest" the forum it would probably be good.  I would suggest considering not allowing politics, then the beer summit can be announced as well as other information for our class. Maybe then people would come back and share stories of their lives after high school.  I admit, as much as I have tried to introduce other subjects I fall back to the politics too easily. Do what you think is best and I'm sure we will survive!

Patty, on July 26, 2020 in post #63, you gave instructions as to how to remove one's name from receiving notifications for the forum. I suggest anyone who no longer wishes to participate in the dialog follow your instructions. Based on the number of people who no longer post, it must work.

Or, those who wish to continue using negative rhetoric could simply move to Facebook. Perhaps then others who may decide to share more friendly thoughts and reminisce about the past will feel safe doing so.

Earlier today a three year old in Mesa shot himself in head and is in critical care. Whoever owns the gun should be arrested for child endangerment, and if the child dies, for involuntary manslaughter.

Katie Baribeau (Moore)

I hope they arrest whoever left that gun out for a 3 year old, put the person in prison and throw away the key.

Patty. In short, I would hate to see this forum have to be shut down. But it is evident that this has become a haven to cast disparaging remarks towards those with whom some do not agree. Posting opinions is one thing, but putting people down in a personal way is not acceptable. Posting opinions as facts is also not acceptable. I must admit that some of us on the right have also been guilty of this. It may be time for a cooling-off period. I have enjoyed posting on current events here, but it might be time to take a break.

05/17/24 11:08 AM #13508

Bill Bonfield

Regarding shutting down. I would suggest considering purpose first. Right now purpose is clearly to ventilate and berate. No one is trying to learn something new or understand something which seems strange. The latter purpose would be very interesting experiment for our country. Suggested rules: 1  Mostly questions with the honest intent to learn  2.  All statements start with I believe or I understand ... and include because....  People should acknowledge the personal nature of their positions and be able to explain how they got there 3  No derogatory tone or name calling  everyone has something to teach and to learn    It would be interesting who would be left  maybe some surprises    If no one can or wants to interesting barometer for the country

Bill Bonfield.  Perhaps you haven't noticed, but many of the conservatives on this site have been attacked by the left for posting their stated (and labeled) "opinions."  The left doesn't like opinions unless they comport with theirs and the left requires a treatise of "facts" supporting the "opinion".  The "opinion" approach seems to go along with your suggestion to start posts with "I believe."  Personally, I have stated that my post is "in my opinion" many times which drives the left insane.  Here's an analogy for you:  I believe that my observation of a day-care facility on fire requires the employment of firefighting activities and I don't feel the need to justify or even explain my "opinion."  I liken this to the Biden policy of an open border and my "bumper sticker opinion" that the border needs to be secured.

Personally, I am sick and tired of some of the zealots on the left and at 76 years of age, I do not feel compelled to continue to engage with anyone who cannot see and accept clear and unassailable facts right in front of their face.

Once again, I jump into the Way Back Machine to 1966-1967 and quote a line from a Buffalo Springfield song:  "Nobody's right if everybody's wrong."

I 100% go along with Patty's suggestion and as far as I'm concerned, the Message Forum can go away forever because no matter who wins the presidential election, the vitriol and rancor will continue to spew.

SECURE THE BORDER!!  ENFORCE THE LAW!!  AMERICA FIRST!!

P.S.  Bill....I think you hit SUBMIT twice resulting in a double-dip.  Maybe delete one?

05/18/24 09:35 AM #13510

DeWitt Bacon

I agree with everything in Jim's post except the part about the forum going away forever. We have gotten away from the forum's original purpose. It doesn't always have to be about politics. I remember well the lengthy conversations we have had about our schooldays, friends, and life experiences. We've discussed hobbies, professions, movies, music, and other non-political topics. Even Katy's posts on these different subjects were enjoyable. I realize this is an election year, and politics is a hot subject. But we need to tone it down a bit. Perhaps Patty's idea of a time-out will help reset the forum.

With regards to suspending the publication of this forum:

I haven’t posted to this forum in a long long while simply because of the presents of the hard left and their drivel. It’s just devolved into a pissing match of ‘tis taint; however, that is exactly the method the lefties use to win.  Keep hammering illogical and unreasonable lies at the top of their voice until the reasonable rightminded amongst us get fed up and just walk away.  They poison the well for all with their vitriol and then everyone loses… unfortunately the left doesn’t ever, or can’t acknowledge the damage they have done not only to everyone else, but themselves included.  Case in point… Biden.

In ‘private’ messages to the conservative members of this forum I have advocated for just ignoring those midget-minded liberals that we find so illogically irritating and NEVER ENGAGE as they have literally lost their minds and have no ability or desire to analyze or learn.  Their arrogance and superior mindedness stand in the way of logical simple reasoning and the ability to admit when they are flat out WRONG on an issue.

A passage from the bible seems appropriate here:  Cast not pearls before swine

Almost 77 years of life has taught me many things and amongst them this:  Don’t lower yourself to wrestling with the pigs… you’ll probably never win, you both will end up muddy, and the pig enjoys it!  DON’T ENGAGE… it’s a waste of your time, reason, and logic.

How long do you think it will take for them to realize they don’t matter?  As a matter of time well spent, I don’t even read the posts from Deshong, Baribeau, Lorts, et al…  Recall my statement about wrestling with pigs… it just gives them credibility.  Life has also taught me to not suffer fools or idiots… just a waste of my precious time and energy. Those who ignore history and repeat past mistakes are ‘fools’.  History proves Socialism has never worked, and will never work as it is against the in born nature of man.  Let the liberal pigs wallow in the mud… DON’T ENGAGE!  Here endith the lesson…

Patty, please don’t let the left win… keep this forum up so the rest of us can enjoy each other’s observations of life.  I look forward to reading this forum everyday to see what my classmates are up to.

Frank:  I plan to be at the Beer Summit 5/30/24 @ 4:30.  Looking forward to it.  Let us know who is attending.  Hey, Brad.  Would love to see you!

Thanks for the earlier start time Frank.  I might dodge some of the rush hour traffic.

Yes Jim, your observation about camping is accurate except now the campers/homeless in downtown San Francisco are getting free beer!  Camping was never enjoyable for me after Nam!

Re: posts #13720 and #13722

You have determined that you can say anything about the Progressives and Richard so I am taking your lead.  Let’s get ready to rumble, see, I’m quoting trump.

I guess neither of you know the following quote:  Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt!”

All I read was playing the victim card….kind of like trump.  “Many of the conservatives on this site have been attacked by the left for posting their stated “opinions.”  Of course the post never mentions  the conservatives attacking the Progressives, and Richard.  Again Coats, we are not driven insane by anything you do, you need respect for someone to have that emotion.  I don’t, plain and simple, and the way you write the feeling is  mutual.  I don’t think I have seen any of “us” play the victim card, but I could be wrong.  You haven’t felt “compelled” to do any research for the truth, that’s why you learned the letters INWMFT but we should believe you, NOT!  I just hope you don’t cry in your beer at the summit because we treated you badly…….grow a pair and take your shots just as you give them out.  Geez, poor baby just doesn’t fit you.  You can have your opinions about how to state our posts, and we can ignore you just as you ignore us.

Brad’s post, our sleeper agent who secretly sends “private” messages to the conservatives to advocate his views and thoughts.  Ohhhhh maybe that's the deep state they are looking for all the time.  Then he goes into how the conservatives are always correct and if we don’t see it that way it is arrogance and superior mindedness.  (paraphrasing) Thank you for the superior mindedness comment, it is the only thing I agreed with in your post, and you are 100% correct.  But he says that he doesn’t read our posts so how does he know anything.  Maybe a little birdie whispers in his ear.   I hope the others wait for your leadership, they might have a thought of their ownand that would be disasterous. I challenge you to cut those puppet strings and let them go out on their own, they are truely old enough but wise enough, that's the question.

Engage, don’t engage, it doesn’t matter what you say, what you post I’m going to post what I want, when I want, just like others do.  I will also read all of the Progressive, and Richard, posts and whatever I want of the others.  I do t care if anyone chooses to read them or not to read them, I do it to point out hypocrisy and misinformation given by trumpies, as well as to celebrate the many improvements brought to us courtesy of President Biden.

I continue to believe as I have stated before that two healthy functioning political parties are necessary for our democracy.  We need ideas from many different people.  Most of the excellent legislation of the past is compromise legislation, like the Constitution, which trump wants to suspend if he doesn’t like it.  ("A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution," trump wrote.  Of course their is not one bit of proof of election fraud, in fact quite the opposite, but trump lies). In these two posts it is clearly stated that if we don’t believe as you do, we are WRONG.  Isn’t that the philosophy of dictators, and now it makes sense.  Candidate trump wants so much to be a dictator, and they take their marching orders from his ramblings.  Never discuss just order, never admit wrong doing, just lie, and say it over and over and over again until people believe it.

So basically my thought about these posts is they give my middle finger a reason for being.  I would assume you will never get any of the Progressives, or Richard,  to follow you down the rabbit hole to an authoritarian government.   I will vote all Democratic and be very proud to do so.

Michael Kelly

Well now that the Forum has opened back up, and after reading most of what has been Posted here, I have some conclusions I have Reached.

When I read a Lie, and know the  person who has stated it is purposefully avoiding the Truth, I have a choice at that point. Either respond, or else remain silent. Remaining silent has a sense of repose and is probably the preferred "response" if you want to call it that, or respond with my own opinion. Of course, my opinion probably doesn't teally matter to the propounder of the Lies, and then I am wasting my own time responding to the soliloquoy of what I have just read and know the facts don't support.

I am not going to take the false repose  that I am going to be the 'Adult in the Room" and not respond to preserve whatever false sense of peace supposedly resides in taking the timid way out to avoid stiirring up the Baby Hornets in this Forum when they are wrong.

Katie from what you have written little seems to have any foundation in fact. It is just whatever propaganda you currently ascribe to. Iti is probably going to continue to be :Flotsam and Jetsom and unworthy of reading.

Richard, your oblique apporoaches to dealing with current events may supposedly reveal your superior intellect, but ofttimes to me seems to be aimed at skinrting current events as they factually exist, whatever  has now got to do with the Teapot Dome Scandal, but I guess you like to Globe Trot  burning Gasoline, while advocating for abandoning same. I have some Tylenol here and may take it if I have to read your Epistles, bht  there is a Real Bible that I prefer to Read. So continue to write, and hope you get published  one day if that is your goal.

Knowledge refers to information that is backed up by facts, evidence, and experience. It’s a product of learning, research, and observation. On the other hand, opinion is a personal view or belief that is not necessarily based on factual evidence.

If one is to respect another’s opinion, shouldn’t those others likewise respect proven facts?

06/10/24 08:30 AM #13519

Katie Baribeau (Moore)

Well, Richard, it looks like you and I have been chosen to go right to the top of our class!  Without needing to go behind the scenes and make "deep forum" agreements, I will do it right out here in the open. I will just ignore the people who want to go back to the way it was before. I will not even read them any more. I would like to hear from some of the others, their lives, what the read, where they travel, about their families.  So, my suggestion, if Kelly wants to continue with his old ways, let him.  As I have said before, it says more about him than those of us who would like discussion. If I don't read his posts they won't matter, which they don't anyway.  Maybe he just needs friends and doesn't know where it find them.
To anyone who would like to join us for some fun discussions, please do.  Just remember, there are some who insist on returning to the old ways, just read right past them. It's the same thing over and over again.  Was 1965 a good graduating class at Camelback, did most of us go on to be good citizens, do we read, travel, enjoy cooking (not me).  Hope to hear from you soon.  I will invite those of you who started to post some interesting items to continue. I really enjoyed all the book suggestions but I do have to admit, my list is now so long I won't have enough time.
Plato, "A wise man, or woman, speaks because he has something to say; a fool speaks because he has to say something."  One person just couldn't wait to try to start it all up again,  so I will end with Proverbs.  "A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.
BTW, I am finishing Democracy Awakening, it is excellent, I would highly recommend when you want a non-fiction book to read.  I just finished The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies, the title drew me in, 😂🤪  it is a fast and fun read when you need a break.
I hope you all are staying cool this summer, it will be a hot one here.  I won't be able to escape much so I will live vicariously though those of you that can escape.  Please, tell me what it is like to be able to go outside without getting second degree burns!  Peace out!

Earl or Richard, was it one of you  who suggested a book on having non-confrontational discussions.  I wrote it down somewhere and now am unable to find it. If it was, could you share the title again. Thanks

Well....How about that?!  Dick Van Dyke received a Daytime Emmy at 98 years of age.  The oldest person to receive one EVER!  He still has that twinkle in his eye.  I always loved him.  I can just hear Laura saying from her twin bed separated from his by a nightstand:  "Ohhhhhhh......Rooooobbbb!" in her quavering little voice. Classic TV show!  If I could find the show, I would watch it.  Our country was a happier place then.....in my opinionsmiley.

And now....here we are.  We're back.  Freedom of Speech and all that.

I do have a new bumper sticker closing:

"IN THE END, THEY'RE NOT COMING AFTER ME.  THEY'RE COMING AFTER YOU AND I'M JUST STANDING IN THE WAY."  DONALD J. TRUMP.
